How much does a baby usually sleep a day

– Babies up to six months of age

The internal clock of a newborn baby is not yet developed. As you can see in the table of children’s sleep time, between day and night, they usually sleep a lot, from 16 to 20 hours a day. In the first few weeks, your daytime sleep is usually interrupted at 2-3 hour intervals for your milk feeds.

Starting in the second month, you will be able to sleep for longer periods of time. After the third month , babies usually sleep a little more at night, 6 to 8 hours without interruption, and about five hours during the day, which is quite relieving to parents.

At six months , the baby will already take three-hour naps during the day and will sleep about 11 hours at night. At this stage, they should already sleep on their own. When they are sick they will need more attention and affection, so it is normal for parents to take them in their arms and pamper them more , because that will make them feel better.

However, it is convenient that this attitude is not prolonged so that the baby does not pick up the habit. When your baby wakes up many times during a night, he may be upset about something. It is best to take care of him and make sure that everything is fine, that is, that he does not have a dirty diaper or that he is not hot or cold. It is advisable to give him the pacifier, gently caress him on his back or belly, period. The closer to his first birthday , the baby will gradually get a little more sleep at night.
